World Care - Recycling for Humanity First

July 2, 2010:  Relief Supplies for the Gulf Clean-Up

Items Needed:
Monetary Donations (make check payable to World Care)  Mail check to:

World Care Emergency Relief Center
3538 East Ellington Place

Tucson, AZ  85713

In memo line put: Gulf Relief

Biodegradable Degreasers:

DISH SOAP WITH DEGREASING AGENTS is inexpensive and easily purchased at any store.

Let's go one step further and use biodegradables; the Gulf has enough issues with unnecessary chemicals and oils.  Most grocery chain stores (Costo, Target, Whole Foods and Sunflower) have their own label which is cheaper to buy than name brands.  For example, Safeway carries Bright Green™, Costco carries Kirkland™.

Dawn™ liquid dishwashing soap or something comparable can be used also, but it is not biodegradable.

Women's Nylons:

Yes, your holey nylons can fine a use in the Gulf's clean up.  They are stuffed with donated hair and fur to make oil containment booms.

Towels:

Your old bath and hand towels can find another use!  Bath towels are used for cleaning toxic oils from animal's feathers, fur or skin.

Donations can be dropped off at our warehouse at:

World Care Emergency Relief Center
3538 East Ellington Place

Tucson, AZ  85713

In the wake of the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that struck on January 12, 2010, the people of Haiti still feel the strain of having their capital city reduced to rubble.  While reconstruction continues, many Haitian families find it difficult to rebuild their lives.  A majority of the city's population still live in tent cites, which cover the ruins of Port-au-Prince.  The United Nations estimates that 105,000 homes were destroyed and 208,000 others were damaged by the earthquake.

Since January, World Care has shipped $1.5 million in resources, including medical and essential emergency relief supplies, to Haiti.  World Care continues to collaborate with International Relief & Development to provide supplies to the region for the orphanages and major hospitals.  We are currently buying in country to stimulate the local economy and to provide resources faster.  We will continue to collect funding for Haiti and our relief efforts in Haiti will be ongoing.

In addition, we are currently producing a documentary titled "When Disaster Strikes:  The Challenge Of Reaching Those In Need".  The purpose of the documentary is to show you, the community, how aid donations are first acquired at World Care and then demonstrate some of the challenges that occur when moving these resources into a disaster environment safely and consistently over time.  The documentary will feature footage of our World Care Team on-site in Haiti during the aftermath of the quake.

- A cartridge can take 450-1000 years to decompose.
- In one year, if the world's discarded cartridges were stacked end-to-end, they would circle the earth over three times!
